Welcome to Earlobe Calming, a collection of desperate, vulnerable, and collaborative acts.
Uhhh this is just a little note on what I’m thinking about the project and things that will be coming up. So first of all, next week from the 17th I will be in the United States for the first time in about a year and a half. I’m very excited for it. I will be in Providence and New York –
[water splashes]
Just dumping out the water from the wine glass – and then Minnesota for two weeks. And I’ll be taking Amtrak for a day between New York and Minnesota, passing through Chicago for a morning.
Um so, this will maybe change the way I put things out. I’ve been trying to put something out, either a Money Talk or a submission every week but maybe I will end up taking a week off because of travel or like I won’t have my nice mic with me so sound quality may be a little different, we’ll see how it all works.
But also, if you have an idea for some kind of piece that relates to any of these places or, you know the Northeast, New York, Minnesota, Amtrak, America, the holiday, travel, you know any of these themes that will be present through my trip, um, I would really like to make a little something while I’m traveling so if you have some sort of a — some thing you’d like to see or a question you’d like to — me to tangle up in, send me an email at gcoleman.mn[at]gmail.com or you can go to gabriel.town/earlobe/create and fill out the little form and send me an idea! Because I’d really like to make something while I’m traveling and like – include this little trip home as part of this sort of archive I’m building.
Ummm– and then the second thing is that I have an idea, or I’ve wanted– since I startubg this project it’s been kind of a goal to incoorperate a sort of serial fiction piece into Earlobe Calming as part of the regular flow of things. So, so far I’ve just been doing a standalone submission one week and then a Money Talk the other week and I think ideally it would be nice to do two standalone submissions per month and the on the other weeks a Money Talk and then this fiction piece. And the idea I have in my head is that folks would fill out the Create form, send just, you know, a dollar or five dollars, some tiny amount, and then in the submission would have some sort of a seed of what will happen in the next episode of this serial fiction. Umm and then I would take that seed and then flesh it out into um part of this world that we all create together as part of this podcast.
So, the basis I have, and the structure of it that I have in my head so far is that it would be based around a guestbook for some cabin or some rural vacation house. Um and that each episode would be an entry in this guestbook from the past, from this last week, you know something like that. Um and through these different guestbook entries we would collectively build this world with all of its characters that might recur in various episodes. Um, yeah and kind of see if we can like really make something together because that’s what I’m trying to– what this whole project is about so–
If that’s of interest to you, again, email, twitter, or the Create form are great ways to get in touch, um, if you’re just– if you have ideas of how this would work or if you have a seed, something to get started. I might try to make the first one just solo to kind of establish the setting, um, but then yeah that’s, that’s the idea.
I don’t know, I’m trying to think of how I would put this– like if I need to rethink the website to put these three different things, the standalone submission, the serial fiction, and the Money Talks, give them each their own space. Um…
But yeah I’ll be thinking about it and if you have thoughts I’d love to hear them because… yeah I can only do so much on my own, in my own brain to create something that’s compelling for others so.
Those are the two things. Will be in Minnesota if you’d like to see something about the US, about Minnesota, any of those things let me know. And then yeah, let me know what your thoughts are on this fiction thing, on the Guestbook, um. Other than that I hope you’re well whenever and wherever you’re listening and you’ll hear from me soon, I’ll have another project up later this weekend and then, you know, in the future. But I’d love to hear from you in whatever way you want to reach out.
And thank you for listening and thank you for your help.
